Prompt Me! Wednesday - A Treasured Gift

A treasured gift is the theme for Prompt Me! Wednesday.

One of the gifts that I treasure most in my life is a talent for photographing insects. I love going for a hike never knowing what kind of creature I'm going to find. Of course, the plant bug below was easy to spot since it's brown and sitting on top of fresh snow.

What the heck is a bug doing out there in the snow?? (I guess he's posing for you!) :-) Thanks for linking up!

That's what I wanted to know. I tried figuring out if a plant bug should be out and about in the middle of winter, but I didn't have any luck. If he wasn't frozen, he was sure sluggish. I couldn't tell that he could move if he wanted to.

You must live near a creek. I found a couple of these late last winter/very early spring, and had to Google to learn about them. This is what I posted when I had a photo of one a couple of years back.

They're Winter Stoneflies. Apparently they come out of the creek in the early spring sunshine, feed on vegetation, mate and lay their eggs back into the creek.

Hilary, could be a stonefly. I meant to check that out and forgot. We do a have a creek a couple of blocks north of here.

not only a talent for photography but I suspect - little fear of creepy crawlers and a healthy dose of scientific curiosity.

Thank you for the kind comment lisleman. I used to be afraid of insects and spiders but then my husband explained to me that some of them eat ants. Woo! Hoo!

I'm actually too stupid to be afraid most of the time. I'm just snapping away while I'm out and about. Then later, while looking up what I captured, I will find out it bites or stings and be grateful I dodged a bullet.

Since none of these small wonders has gone of their way to "get me" yet, I tend to be pretty brave although at times cautious if I don't know what I'm dealing with.

Barbara - Insects are my favorite. I'm definitely getting anxious for spring. Not a whole lot goes on in the winter. Problem is, spring doesn't get to Montana until June sometimes. It'll have to do.

Laura - Glad to help with your bug fix. I'm definitely jonesing for the weather to turn to spring here. I need to get out and mingle with the six-legged creatures.
