Out and About in Bozeman - Drinking Horse Trail

Last weekend we went for a hike, and I suggested Drinking Horse Trail out by the Fish Technology Center. I had never been in the winter. And I must say it was an excellent choice. The trail if followed all the way to the top is not too long, but it does have a way to loop across half way up for an even shorter hike. It's a very beautiful hike with plenty of opportunity for scenic views along the way. I highly recommend it.

The small insects at the bottom are springtails. They are called snow fleas as well. I can't tell from the description in my Audubon book if they are technically snow fleas though as they are not supposed to come this far west.

More Grave Markers

We went sledding on Valentine's Day, and I was good for a couple of runs, so I went hiking. I started out in Lindley Park this time, but I didn't find anything too interesting there, so I wound up in Sunset Hills Cemetary again. I guess that's kind of a morbid way to spend part of the day, but I was reminded on occasion that I was lucky to still have my Valentine here with me.

Delicate Daffodils

These were my Valentine's Day gift from my husband. I just love daffodils. They have such an interesting shape. And the way the sun shines through the leaves gives them a great glow.

Hang in There Kitty

Garfield was up in the tree the other day and started to slip. I clicked this picture just before he let go. I would've helped him out, but I figured he'd land safely since he was only 4 feet off the ground. And I figured right.

Majestic Raptors

Short post today. I thought I would put up a photo of the framed print I will be donating to this year's Parents' Night Out. Turned out pretty good.

Mess of the Month - February

Back to business as usual this month. February, for some odd reason, is really brutal for me organizationally. (Is that even a word? It is now!) You would think it would be the opposite since it's so short. Nope. Too much to do. Pinewood Derby and Parents' Night Out which both take a lot of work mainly in February.

I have blurred out a section of the table. This was Hawk's Valentine's Day Box. He didn't want me to put it on the internet. So it has been blurred out to protect it's identity. Well maybe next month will be better.

If this is too much, go back a month and enjoy the neatness:

Of Snail Eggs, Guppies and Measuring Cups

Here's another science project the first graders are currently working on. This one is a fish tank full of snails and guppies. These two snails are carrying around snail eggs. Some of them hatched a couple of days ago and we have baby snails in the tank now. It's pretty cool. The last photo is just me messing around at home. I thought it was cool how the measuring cup reflection made gave the impression that the cup was actually burried in the fish tank stones. Optical illusions are fascinating to me.

Of Bess Beetles and Roly Polies

This is one of the science projects the first graders are working on at the school I work at. There are also milipedes in here, but you have to dig for them, and I don't like them that much. That's one of the few things that give me the heebie jeebies. So without further ado, I present - Bess Beetles and Roly Polies!

Winter Steam

Well, I'm nothing if not obsessive. I took 25 shots of this light with the steam coming off of it. These are the most interesting of the bunch. Steam, fog, smoke and the like are very interesting in that they form a shape while remaining shapeless. The wisps, waves and curls just fascinate me.
