Mess of the Month - November

This month is a little bit different. Due to the holidays, I lost track of time and forgot to take my picture. So I am substituting this photo instead. About 2 weeks ago, while my son was home sick, I decided I could no longer abide the mess that was my pantry, so I cleaned it up. It took me 4 hours.

I took this series of shots from the M Trail as we were coming down. I thought it would be interesting to arrange them in chronological order as light slowly seeps from the sky.

Rocks and What Grows on Them

Once again I find myself a few weeks behind. A couple of weekends ago we decided to go hiking on the M Trail. While it's one of my favorite trails to hike, it's not the easiest trail on the planet. (Well, it is to all the joggers. Me, I'm a bit out of shape.) I do however love the view from the top and this rock outcropping has been a favorite subject of mine since we moved here. And as you can see, there is always plenty of interesting fungi and lichen to find as well.

We Will Miss You

We had to put our dog down this morning. She was at the end of a very difficult battle with bone cancer. She will be sorely missed. If I ever get such a nasty disease, I hope I can handle it with half the grace that she did.

Stuck Bugs

We have discovered a cheaper fly strip. Those sticky gel designs that you put on your window. Well, we've had snowflake ones up for a year, and they've gotten kind of melty, so now all they're good for is catching flies and gnats. I threw them out. Of course, I took these photos first, so I could share and gross everyone out.

Snow in Places I Didn't Know My Car Had

As my neighbor said, at least you got off the road. Yeah, and snow in places I didn't know my car had!

It took me around 2 hours just to dig out around the car. Fortunately for me, my husband said he'd get the rest of the driveway. You go honey!

A World Contained

I took these shots after it rained on Monday. I love water droplets and the way the seem to contain their own little world.

Thank You to All Veterans

This is a bit different post than usual. It occured to me that I don't think I ever said thank you to my dad for his service to this country. So thank you Dad! And thank you to all the veterans out there.

A Late Halloween Post

This post is a bit late (and a bit blurry). This is a pumpkin that my son made for a class project. They were supposed to carve or paint a pumpkin based on a compound word their teacher gave them. His was policeman. So he not only made a mini pumpkin policman, but he also made a larger pumpkin police car.

We Found It in the Bushes

We spotted this large hornets' nest in our lilac bushes behind our house. Never knew it was there. If you look really close, you can see that the tree grew up right through the nest. In fact, it split it in half since the branch that grew through, forked at the base of the nest. I clipped it down to get more up close and personal shots so to write.

Announcing My Latest Venture

This is a bit of a different post.  I've started a new website.  It's called My Gift to You Today.com.  It's mainly set up as a blog where I talk about the simple things I do from time to time to brighten someone's day.  Whether it does or not, I can't guarantee.  I figure in this current economic situation, we could use all the joy we can get.  And I figure it's a very easy thing to spread.  And that it doesn't have to cost a dime.  I'm hoping to start a movement.  Sort of like the movie Pass It Forward.  Check out the latest post.

In The House

This is a series of shots I took a couple of weeks ago over two or three days. The end of Fall always means insects seeking refuge in our house. I think the hornet was dead, but I vacuumed him up just to be safe. If not dead, very lathargic from the cold weather. The fly was definitely no longer alive. I don't know if he got stuck in the blinds and couldn't free himself or what. Kind of an awful thought. The earwig is still going as far as I know. They show up in our hallway from time to time on the door jambs. Don't know where they go or where they come from. Just as long as they don't end up in my shoes like they did in Colorado. Always had to check before getting dressed, but I never got pinched.
